2022 Updates to Canada's Asbestos Ban

After Dec. 31, 2022, the use of asbestos-containing products to service equipment in a nuclear facility and to service military equipment will be prohibited, unless a permit has been issued. However, the mandate still allows asbestos use if there isn’t a viable alternative.
The last stage in the implementation of these regulations comes in 2029, where the import and use of asbestos in chlor-alkali facilities will be prohibited.

Despite these measures, they don’t apply to asbestos that has already been integrated into structure, infrastructure or products before the day the regulation was implemented, which was Dec. 30, 2018.
