I Have An Older Home And There Isn't A Bathroom Fan. Should I Have One Installed?

A bathroom exhaust fan is an important part of your home’s ventilation system. If a bathroom is not properly ventilated, the moisture from your shower has nowhere to go and the humidity can lead to structural damage to drywall, joists, and even impair your attic insulation. A properly installed, energy-efficient bathroom fan can prevent this damage as well as eliminate odors, improve indoor air quality, and prevent mold and mildew

When Am I Supposed To Get My Air Ducts Cleaned?

Here’s when we recommend having your air ducts cleaned:

• if you have, or had, a mold problem in your home
• if you have experienced unwanted house guests i.e. rodents
• if you can see particles of dust or debris coming from your vents
• if your air system has been exposed to water
• following renovation work
• if you have pets or smokers in the house (or if you are purchasing a new home where the previous owners had pets or smoked).

Have your home inspected by a reputable company approximately every 5 – 7 years to see if it’s time for a cleaning.

Why Should I Hire a Professional Versus a Handyman?

Whether you have mold, a water damage or you have found asbestos in your property, hiring the right professional is very important. The right professional will be able to conduct the remediation efficiently, cost effective and ensure that everyone in the property is safe.  Hiring a mold professional is able to identify the cause of the mold growth, therefore eliminating the chances of mold growth.

Mold remediation and removal can be a costly process and deter property owners from hiring the right professionals for the task. Hiring a general handyman can be a costly mistake. Without the proper knowledge and the proper remediation protocols, handyman’s can be putting themselves as well as the people in the building at harm.

When hiring the right company it is important to look for previous references and all the right certifications. It is also important that the company holds the proper liability and insurances. These are the first major factors that a property owner must look for.

Every factor is important to look out for. Each factor will identify whether the expert is the right professional for the job.

What's The Difference Between A Home Inspector And A Mold Inspector?

Home inspectors go into many homes during the year right prior to the sale. During this inspection they will normally look out for the standard signs of the condition of the home. This includes some the foundation, cracks, the condition of the roof, condition of the insulation, if there is any asbestos and or mold. However, many home inspectors are not certified in mold inspection nor have a vast knowledge in mold. Most of their recommendations are based on their previous experience rather than factual knowledge.

Whenever mold or mould is found, it is crucial that you have a professional mold inspector to come check it out. A home inspector recommendation may not be accurate or can even put you and your family in bigger danger. Mold can be very dangerous and harmful to your body. Improper treatment and remediation can cause further damage and can cost you more in the long run than hiring a professional from the beginning.

When we send out a certified mold inspector, they are able to understand the severity of the damage and what are the potential causes of the mold. This allows rectifying the problem rather than just the showing symptom. Mold inspectors or mould inspectors are also able to give proper advice on the treatment and remediation solutions to ensure that the problem does not reoccur.
